Whiting

Whiting -

Is made from chalk - which is an impure carbonate of lime. It is prepared by grinding and then washing the chalk so as to separate the coarser particles from the finer, the latter being collected in masses and dried.

Whiting is extensively used for size, in the manufacture of paint, putty, linoleum, calcimine, etc.; as a household article for cleaning metals and plate, and medicinally as an antidote in cases of poisoning with mineral acids.
