Romaine, Cos Lettuce, Leaf Lettuce -

One of the three principal divisions of the Lettuce family and a popular summer salad-plant. It is distinguished by its long straight up-right leaves, generally inclined to spoon-shape and with thick crisp midribs. The inner leaves are usually blanched by tying the plant together during growth.
